During the years Dr. Weichselbaum has been building the Chicago program, he has received many professional honors and recognition for his scientific and medical accomplishments. Some of his most notable professional awards include:
- the first Harold H. Hines, Jr. Chair at the University of Chicago
- an appointment to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, where he is one of only three radiation oncologists
- an honorary membership in the Swiss Society of Radiology
- the first John B. Little Award from Harvard Public School of Public Health
Dr. Weichselbaum also has received numerous prestigious invited lectureships and visiting professorships including:
- Roentgen Centennial lectureship at the University of Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland)
- Keynote lecturer at the Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm, Sweden)
