Opened in November 1996, the University of Chicago's Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine allows physicians and health care professionals to deliver patient-centered care while addressing patient needs of privacy and convenience. Referring physicians are an integral part of our care team, which facilitates continuity of care. Our physicians keep referring MDs routinely apprised of individual patient status and treatment options.
The six-story, 525,000-square-foot building houses 209 examination rooms, 62 rooms for outpatient procedures, and two CT and two MRI scanners, including an echoplanar. It has facilities for nuclear medicine, five outpatient surgery suites, and three linear accelerators for radiation therapy. Areas dedicated to chemotherapy and gastrointestinal procedures are double in size in this new building. Spacious, open lower floors lend efficiency to departments such as radiation oncology, radiology, and surgery which have significant diagnostic and treatment requirements.
The Center for Advanced Medicine is home to our adult and pediatric specialty clinics at the University of Chicago Hospitals and includes state-of-the-art outpatient diagnostic and treatment facilities. It brings the knowledge and resources of the University of Chicago to the outpatient setting: clinical trials in virtually every medical area and more research supported by NIH funding than any where else in the state of Illinois, fostering the most significant advances in medical protocols.
The Center for Advanced Medicine is designed with the patient's best interests in mind. Physician offices are conveniently located next to related diagnostic and treatment services, enabling patients to receive care for all related medical conditions within the same area of the building. Clinical areas are on the west side of the building; diagnostic and treatment areas on the east side. Lab testing services are available on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors. Upper floors are designed around a central atrium which begins at the fourth level and helps patients and visitors orient themselves within the facility. The Center for Advanced Medicine offers valet parking and an adjacent parking garage connected by a skybridge. Registration is available on the second floor for those entering through the parking garage and on the first floor for those entering from valet parking or the front doors. A single, conveniently located bank of elevators in the center takes patients to their appointments.
